She has performed for and worked with the public school systems of Norfolk, Hampton, and Newport News. In 2016, Glo Shines had the privilege of being the opening act for the legendary Dick Gregory. She has also featured and hosted at several notable venues in Hampton Roads Virginia: including the Chrysler Museum, The Harrison Opera House, Old Dominion University, Hampton University, Downing Gross Community Center, The Funny Bone and the Newsome House. She was a featured at such national venues as Nicolas Bookstore in Brooklyn, Tuesday Verses in Richmond, VA and Wednesday Verses, Honfleur Gallery, Big Chief, Ivy City Smokehouse in Washington, DC, and the renowned Apache Café in Atlanta, GA. As a performer she brings an intangible energy that engages and informs her audience. Poetry and spoken word came many years later. Hip -Hopper since a toddler, Glo composed her first raps at the age of 4. Glo Shines Glo Shines is a poet, emcee, host and supplier of vibes. Failure to check-in within 30 minutes of advertised start time may result in a forfeiture of seats. Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis.

This series will take place on the 3rd Wednesday at 8:00pm May through October:Īug 17 – Takoma => TICKETS – hosted by Glo Shines We hope this poetry series will lift up the stories from these communities, as well as speak to the spiritual and healing connections, and fun times humans have with water. Too often, our low-income and marginalized communities are the ones most harmed by flooding, polluted waterways and historical disinvestment. Our DC rivers, while vastly improved since the 1970’s, still experience sewage overflows and legacy toxic pollution. For five decades, the Clean Water Act has protected our waterways and stopped practices such as the discharge of completely untreated wastewater. We need it to keep our bodies healthy, our communities safe, and our economies strong. What does water mean to you? This special series of poetry events explores the undeniable fact that “Water is life.” Waterkeepers Chesapeake, in partnership with Busboys and Poets, is hosting this series as part of the Clean Water Act 50th Anniversary Campaign.Įveryone has the right to clean water.
